Escape from the city and enjoy modern art in the Parc de Montjuïc

If you are into the contemporary art scene the Fundaciò Joan Miró is definitely not a site you can pass up. The contemporary art gallery and museum dedicated to the world-renowned Spanish Catalan painter, sculptor, and ceramist is located in the scenic Parc de Montjuïc. The park offers a fantastic variety of museums, art galleries, pleasure gardens and of course precious views. The hilly landscape makes the park a bit of an adventure to get to but once you do it will be well worth it. Rosanna and I climbed up the steep route of C/Nou de la Rambla in Poble Sec and took the stairway at the very top that left us just short distance from the Fundaciò Joan Miró.

The artist was born April 20, 1893 in the seaport city of Barcelona. Miró's father was a watchmaker and his mother a goldsmith so from an early age he was exposed to the arts. The Foundation is currently the home to the largest most complete works of the artist with over 14,000 pieces: 217 paintings, 178 sculptures, 9 textiles, 4 ceramics, the almost complete graphic works and some 8,000 drawings. In addition there are works from young artists who experiment with the arts in the Espai 13 space. There are also temporary exhibitions of works of other painters.
